Maybe this is at the university only, but people in their twenties and thirties are quite competitive and do not leave so much room for good life. But as they age, they notice that there are still the cumbersome, maybe technical sides of such an approach to working life and to lufe geberally. So once their own job is secure, they invest in things that soften life. They have woolen socks in sandals, an old loose woolen shirt, and they wander in their working place with a tea mug in hand. They also have more skills of arranging better life.
My view is that in order to get better lufe, one ought to, in every kinds of major things, choose oneself from at least a few options, instead of letting study pals or parents make such choices for yourself. For example town public library is one source of new hobbies and wider views to life and what kinds of places to live in, etc there are.
